Waikato Racing Hub Team Returns to Tamahere for It's Own Open Day

Tamahere residents will have another opportunity to question the team behind the proposed Waikato Racing Hub when Waikato Thoroughbred Racing holds it's own designated Open Day at the Tamahere Community Centre on Sunday 23 August, from 2pm–5pm.

The proposed development covers approximately 164 hectares around Pencarrow, Hooker and Duncan Roads and would consolidate the existing Te Rapa, Cambridge and Waipā thoroughbred racing facilities, together with Cambridge harness racing, into a major new racing and training precinct. The wider proposal also includes equestrian and event facilities, commercial activities, a village centre, residential development and parking for more than 2,000 vehicles along with 800-1200 horses.

The project reached an important milestone in July when the Minister for Infrastructure referred it into the Fast-track approvals process. Waikato Thoroughbred Racing is now preparing the next stage of its application, with further detailed work covering the design and layout of the hub, access and transport, water availability, noise and other environmental effects.

This exclusive WTR Racing Hub open day is therefore an important opportunity for local residents to see how the proposal has developed, ask questions directly of the project team and raise concerns they believe still need to be addressed before the substantive application progresses. Information will also be available on the project's claimed economic and local benefits and the process from here.
