Tamahere’s long-term future, major transport projects and local reserve developments will feature at the Tamahere Community Committee meeting on Tuesday 6 October, at 7.30pm in the Tamahere Community Centre.

Vision Tamahere 2075 is a key discussion item, with the committee considering consultant planning input, funding and preparations for public consultation on 18 October. Engagement with the Matangi and Tauwhare community committees and Ngāti Hauā is also on the agenda, alongside clarification of the project’s first and second stages.

Transport discussions will include an update following the committee and Waikato District Council’s September meeting with NZTA about Southern Links, together with the Waikato Thoroughbred Racing fast-track proposal and the council’s position.

Councillors Crystal Beavis and Mike Keir are expected to report on the council’s Long-Term Plan consultation, sand quarry development, proposed upgrades to the Woodcock Road–Tauwhare Road intersection and progress on the Tamahere Drive upgrade. Also listed are Hamilton Pony Club’s proposed licence to occupy land on Pickering Road and bridleways across the Tamahere, Matangi and Tauwhare area.

Community spaces will receive attention through updates on the Tamahere Reserve Concept Plan and the Matangi Recreation Reserve steering group. The chairman’s report also covers council transformation, the Tamahere Community Charitable Trust, and plans to promote the Tamahere Forum through locally distributed signs.

Reports may be received from Civil Defence, Matangi Community Committee, Predator Free Tamahere, Tamahere Lions, Mangaone Restoration Trust, Tamahere Model Country School and St Stephen’s Church.

The committee will also consider replacing Mark Manson, who has resigned following his move to Taupō, on both the committee and charitable trust, along with the appointment of additional committee members.

The next scheduled meeting is Tuesday 3 November at 7.30pm.
