Could Emergency Services Find Your Property?
RAPID stands for Rural Address Property Identification. It’s the numbering system used for rural properties. Your RAPID number helps emergency services locate your entrance: it gives an approximate distance along the road from its starting point. Number 82, for example, means an entrance roughly 820 metres along the road.
But the number only helps if crews can see it and reach you. Take a look at your entrance from the road:
Is your RAPID plate clearly visible at the gate, with vegetation trimmed away?
Can it be seen at night? Reflective numbers help.
If tracks divide or your home is far from the gate, are there signs pointing the way?
Is the entrance and driveway clear enough for a large fire engine or ambulance? Check overhanging branches.
Ensure good access to water tanks and swimming pools and turning circles.
A few minutes checking your property could save valuable time in an emergency.
