Hamilton East, Hillcrest, Tamahere and Matangi Community Patrol Volunteers - Former Police Officers - Jazz Corban and Candice Upperton
There is an increasing recognition across New Zealand community vigilance plays an important role in keeping neighbourhoods safe. While Police continue to do an excellent job supporting our communities, they cannot be everywhere at once. That’s why local initiatives where neighbours look out for one another are becoming more important than ever.
One such initiative is the Community Patrol now covering Hamilton East, Hillcrest, Tamahere and Matangi. This volunteer-led patrol works alongside Police to provide additional “eyes and ears” on our streets, observing and reporting suspicious activity and helping support safer communities across the eastern suburbs. Another valuable network many residents may not be aware of is Neighbourhood Support, which overlays into the Tamahere area through the Cambridge network. These groups allow neighbours to share information, stay aware of local safety issues, and strengthen community connections. Cambridge Neighbourhood Support.
There is also a national initiative encouraging stronger neighbourhood connections. Neighbours Aotearoa invites communities across the country to reflect on a simple question: “What does being a neighbour mean to you?” Learn more or take part in the conversation by CLICKING HERE
Ultimately, safer communities are built through awareness, communication, and neighbours looking out for each other.
