Tamahere Reserve Concept Plan — Your Voice Still Matters

Waikato District Council is currently shaping the future of Tamahere Reserve (the former Crawfords Quarry) and is calling on residents to help decide how this important community space evolves. The concept plan focuses on improving accessibility, enhancing walking tracks, and introducing amenities that give the reserve a clearer purpose for community use. Council has emphasised that community feedback will directly guide final decisions, making this consultation one of the most important opportunities for locals to influence how the reserve develops.

The draft plan recognises the reserve’s two distinct landforms, the large open upper area and the established network of trails developed over many years. Proposed improvements include better connections between upper and lower areas, more defined uses for currently under-utilised land, and upgrades that respond to how residents want to use the space. The reserve has been divided into zones to help shape future planning, with the goal of creating a more accessible, functional, and community-driven recreational environment.

Council has made it clear this is a community-led concept plan. Feedback is being sought on ideas such as improved parking and access, enhanced walking and recreation opportunities, and additional amenities that support broader community use. The reserve has benefited from years of volunteer effort, particularly within the gully and natural areas, and this consultation aims to ensure future development respects and builds on that legacy while meeting evolving community needs.

Residents who wish to influence the outcome are strongly encouraged to make a formal submission. You can review the full concept plan and submit feedback using the official consultation portal. CLICK HERE
