Roadworks & Summer Travel

Road construction season is underway across the Waikato, with resealing and major works rolling out over the next few months. Expect delays, allow extra time, and check the Council website or NZTA Journey Planner for live updates.

IAWAI – New Water Services Entity Progress

Work continues at pace to establish IAWAI – Flowing Waters, the joint Waikato District/Hamilton City water services organisation set to go live in July 2026. The December report includes updates on staffing, stormwater responsibilities, and asset transfer milestones.

Southern Wastewater Treatment Plant

Hamilton City Council has released new information on the proposed Southern WWTP near the Airport precinct. The long-term plan includes servicing the Airport Industrial area, the Matangi/Tamahere commercial hub, and southern Hamilton, with staged integration through to 2040.

LIM Reports: More Hazard Information

All new Waikato District LIMs now include more detailed natural hazard and climate-risk data. This is especially relevant for those buying, selling, or developing property.

Local Updates

Tamahere Council office briefly closed in November as a precaution during the national coloured-sand recall — now re-opened.
Ngaruawahia Library outreach delivered surprise mini artworks to residents at Atawhai Assisi.
Hillcrest Library services are operating from the former Wintec building at Hamilton Gardens.
Predator Free Tamahere has now removed nearly 10,500 pests and is hosting an AI bird-identification talk on 3 December at the Community Hall.

Holiday Hours & Rubbish Collection

Council offices close 24 December (3pm) and reopen 8 January. Rubbish collection for Thursday/Friday properties moves one day later over the Christmas–New Year period.
