Local Democracy and Why Your Vote Matters as Much as a National Election

We’re often told that national elections are the “big ones.” They shape Parliament, the economy, and foreign policy. But here in the Waikato, the elections that will have the greatest impact on your everyday life are happening right now via your letterbox.

Roading, rates, water, parks, reserves, and community planning - these are all decided by the Waikato District Council. This year you get one mayoral vote and two council votes for the Tamahere–Woodlands Ward. These choices matter. They’ll determine how our corner of the Waikato grows, how well it’s managed, and how fairly costs are shared.

The Tamahere Forum election guide. lays out who’s standing and what they stand for. Choosing wisely means looking past glossy flyers and asking: Who listens? Who’s accountable? Who has the integrity and vision to serve our community?

Who’s Standing for Waikato District Council?

And Don’t Forget the Waikato Regional Council

Why It Matters

National elections set direction. Local elections deliver the reality. If you want better roads, smarter infrastructure, fairer rates, and stronger community voices, your ballot paper is the place to start.

Voting closes 12 noon, Saturday 11 October 2025. Don’t leave it too late. Open that envelope. Tick those boxes. Be part of shaping the future right here at home.
