WDC Launches Official Birchwood Lane Traffic Survey Following Strong Community Feedback

Image shows large turnout at a June meeting of residents concerned the WDC's traffic calming measures were 'over the top'.

After several months of local concern and a well-supported independent survey, Waikato District Council has now opened its official online survey to gather feedback on the Birchwood Lane traffic calming trial.

The move follows consistent pressure from Tamahere residents, who called for smarter, safer, and more community-informed solutions to the traffic issues in the area. Over 300 people responded to an earlier independent survey, signalling a clear appetite for genuine consultation and better design outcomes.

Now, the Council is asking all road users and residents to “have your say” via a short official survey, open from Friday 8 August to Friday 22 August 2025. You can access the survey below.

Flyers with QR codes linking to the survey have also been delivered to homes in the Birchwood area.

For context on how we got here, revisit our earlier coverage of the Birchwood Lane design debacle, which sparked widespread criticism and calls for a more collaborative approach.

Now’s the time to make your voice count. Whether you walk, cycle, drive, or live near Birchwood Lane, your feedback matters.
