Tamahere Committee to Tackle Elections, Traffic, and Reserve Plans in August Meeting

The Tamahere Community Committee (TCC) will gather for its monthly meeting this Tuesday, 5 August at 7.30pm at the Tamahere Community Centre, with a packed agenda covering everything from local election planning to traffic feedback and long-term park development.

Among the key items for discussion is the upcoming Waikato District Council election, with candidate nominations confirmed for the Mayoralty (2 candidates), Tamahere-Woodlands Ward (6 candidates for 2 seats), and the Waikato Regional Council (5 candidates for 2 seats). The committee will consider options for hosting “Meet the Candidate” events to help locals engage directly with those standing for office.

Also on the table is a review of community feedback from the Birchwood Lane traffic survey, alongside updates from Waikato District Council's Service & Delivery team, and a report from local councillors Crystal Beavis and Mike Keir.

One of the more forward-looking agenda items is the consultation process for the Tamahere Reserve, which will shape future development and community use of this valued green space. Charles will also present an update on the Blueprint plan and NZTA’s Southern Links project, both of which carry implications for local infrastructure and connectivity.

Committee members will review a range of sub-committee reports, including:

  • Unspent funds from previous Long-Term Plans (LTPs)

  • CCTV installations

  • Civil Defence planning

  • Predator Free Tamahere updates

  • Progress on the Playground Shade Project (marking the Lions’ 10-year anniversary)

  • Ongoing work by the Mangaone Restoration Trust following pine tree removal

  • Updates from Tamahere Model Country School and St Stephen’s Church

  • An acknowledgement of Blueprint funding awarded to the Tamahere Forum, including plans for new signage

Two major submissions will be discussed: the WDC’s Reserve Management Plan (being heard on the same day as the meeting) and the Waikato Regional Council’s "Have Your Say" platform.

Under general business, the committee will revisit the topic of lighting at the Tamahere Recreation Park, before setting the date for the next meeting on Tuesday 2 September 2025.

All residents are welcome to attend and stay informed about what’s happening in our community.
