Local elections are coming up fast, and if you live in the Waikato District, including here in Tamahere, this is your chance to help shape the future of our community.
Waikato District Council is urging all eligible residents to enrol to vote ahead of the Friday 1 August deadline for the 2025 local government elections. Voting gives you the power to choose who represents Tamahere and the wider district—on Council, on community boards, and even on key decisions like whether to keep Maori wards.
Acting CEO Tony Whittaker says enrolling is essential to making your voice heard.
“When you enrol to vote, you’re helping ensure that the diversity of our district is reflected in local decision-making.”
By enrolling, you’ll have a say on:
Who becomes our next mayor
Which councilors represent your ward
Who sits on your community board
And whether Maori wards remain part of Waikato’s governance
Miss the deadline?
You can still vote via a special vote if:
You enroll after 1 August
You've recently moved to Waikato District
Or you’ve just turned 18
To cast a special vote, enrol on the Parliamentary electoral roll by 7 October at vote.nz, then request a special voting pack from Waikato District Council or Election Services. You’ll be able to submit your special vote locally via the Tamahere Council office and other locations across the district.
Let’s make Tamahere’s voice count.
Enroll today and be part of the change.
