All Tamahere residents are warmly invited to attend a Public Meeting at the Tamahere Community Centre on Tuesday 3 June 2025 at 6:00 pm, followed by the scheduled Tamahere Community Committee (TCC) meeting at 7:30 pm.
This meeting has been arranged in consultation with the Waikato District Council and comes in response to the recent installation, and subsequent removal, of traffic calming measures along Birchwood Lane. These measures, which included plastic bollards and lane narrowing in the 50kph zone, were introduced by Council without adequate prior community notice or consultation, causing considerable surprise and frustration among local residents and road users.
Council staff have acknowledged the oversight and are keen to engage directly with the community to explore future options for addressing speeding concerns, particularly instances where speeds have been reported well over 100kph.
At the meeting, you'll have the opportunity to hear from:
Senior staff from Waikato District Council
Roading and transport team representatives
Members of the Tamahere Community Committee
The goal is to listen, share views, and identify practical, community-supported solutions that enhance safety without compromising the daily lives and commutes of residents.
If you or your neighbours use Birchwood Lane regularly or if you simply want to be part of shaping a fair and sensible way forward, this is your chance to be heard.
Let’s come together in good faith and with open minds to create a solution reflecting both the realities of local traffic and the values of the Tamahere community.
See you there – Tuesday 3 June, 6:00pm at the Tamahere Community Centre.
