Tamahere-Woodlands Councillors’ Update – June 2025

DOWNLOAD THE FULL REPORT BELOW.

Here is a summary of the key points arising from Councillors Beavis and Mike Keir Report for June, 2025

Tamahere Reserve Cleanup Underway
Tree removal in Tamahere Reserve begins this week (from 3 June), with final clearing of the main track to follow. A new concept plan for the reserve will be developed with input from the Tamahere Community Committee and Tamahere-Mangaone Restoration Trust. This will include renaming and reclassifying the reserve.

Birchwood Lane Traffic Calming Trial
A community meeting on Tuesday 3 June (6pm) will gather feedback on the temporary chicanes installed to slow speeding traffic on Birchwood Lane. The trial has received mixed responses, and two chicanes have already been removed.

Big Changes for Water Services
Following 555 submissions on the Long Term Plan (LTP), Council has agreed to set up a jointly owned Water CCO with Hamilton City. It will oversee drinking and wastewater services from July 2026, while stormwater assets remain with each council. The new entity will manage assets and transition roughly 270 staff over the next year.

Rates and Local Funding
The LTP proposes a 4.25% general rate rise in 2025/26, falling slightly in future years. Note: targeted rates (like water and rubbish) may affect your final bill. The Tamahere Forum is set to receive $5,000 in transitional support as it moves toward becoming self-sufficient. Final adoption of the LTP is expected by 30 June.

Have Your Say on Local Parks
Council is updating plans for Neighbourhood and Sports Parks. Locally this includes Good Street and Jack Foster Reserves, Hukanui Park, and Te Awa Reserve, plus Sports Parks like Tamahere Park, Gordonton Reserve, and Matangi Recreation Reserve. Feedback is open until Monday 14 July at www.waikatodistrict.govt.nz/say-it.

Traffic Changes During Fieldays (11–14 June)
Expect temporary one-way traffic on SH21 Airport Rd (westbound only each morning), with some local restrictions in place. Afternoon restrictions between Hamilton Airport and Tamahere will also apply. Residents needing access should contact Fieldays for passes.

SH1B Rail Crossing Delayed
The SH1B Telephone Rd rail crossing remains closed until signal upgrades are completed (expected late July). Detours via Holland, Waverley, and Seddon Roads remain in place.

Local Road Repairs

  • Seddon Rd (Puketaha): Urgent repairs from 3 June under stop/go traffic.

  • Eureka Rd: Closed near Holland Rd from 9–19 June for slumping repairs. Local access maintained.
